It's once again time for the madness that is GenCon London (new name!!) which will take place over Easter 2003 at Olympia 2 again. After much consultation it has been decided that Midnight Mythos will finish at Midnight not begin!!! On top of that we have an official slot booked and the fun starts around 7pm on Good Friday. Check out GenConUK.com. The details are on the event roster! Looks like it could be a biggy this year as the new guys from last year are making a concerted effort to join up their forces and oust the old GOOs from their top spots among the unknown....Bring it all on! we are only afraid that great Cthulu will not aid us in your downfall!

Well! GenCon UK 2002 has been and gone and the mad souls who participated in the UK National championships have (hopefully) recovered!!
A smaller turn out than last year, coz Danny B. left his decks at home but it was hard fought for all that! We taught 3 new players the game in the hour or so leading up to the tournament and one of them made the final!!! Well done to Mat Bowles for that!
After a couple of well fought games it was decided that we should cut straight to a final as people were missing sleep!!! It turns out that Philippa was the sanest among us and beat Madmaps Bailey, Sy(th) Hughes and Mat Bowles into the asylum as she won a Dunwich Horror film poster. Madmaps got a Cthulu Tequila Co. bumper sticker for his, er bag!!!!

Look out for forthcoming Team S.E.L.W.G. Mythos events in the near future!!

Well, it wasn't a nice day on Sunday 21st October, but a few brave (mad???) souls put themselves through the weather for a game or two of Mythos. It was to be the first sealed deck game I had played with Mythos and only the third Mythos tournament that we've run at SELWG but that wasn't going to put a damper on things!
Each player was issued a deck with three boosters. We then allowed around 40 mins deck building time and it was easier for some rather than others! We played the first round and then we drafted three more boosters per table; then more deck building. This was the same for the next two rounds...I had played no adventures through rounds 1 and 2, but in round 3 I managed to sneak a win by a single card play over Mark & Dave by playing Doomed if You Do, an 8 pointer!!! Mark had been looking for a single card and I just beat him to it!
Miraculously this put me in the final and with no sign of Madmaps Steve Bailey it was a close run thing! I was about 3 cards from finishing my Doomed if You Do adventure again when Matthew decided to end the game so that he didn't come last!!! Yes, he worked out that if Fred managed to get his next few cards out, it would end the game and he would come last, so he played his adventure for 5 points and was dammned that he did!!!
This gave me the win in the game and I thought he'd really ballsed up and given Fred the tournament win, but when we worked out the scores, I had won by a single point!!!! Thanks Matthew

Come one Come all, er...Come 10 of you actually!
Team SELWG present a DREAMLANDS sealed deck tournament on
SUNDAY 21ST OCTOBER 2001
The cost to enter is £5.00 and for this you get a sealed Dreamlands deck and 3 Dreamlands boosters.
Unsure of prizes as yet, but we do have another uncut sheet that we can give away!! You must hurry to enter as with only 10 places, I expect demand to be high!
The scoring will be standard Chaosium tournament Rules (see bottom of page) with three rounds then a final game. There will be 2 tables of 3 players and 1 of 4 players. The first round will be randomly drawn and then the scores will decide who sits where with the highest sitting at the 4 player table.
The highest scores per ROUND will play each other, then the next 3 then the next. The total score will only count after the three qualifying rounds.
N.B.Due to the nature of sealed deck play, the first adventure played or loss of all Sanity will halt the game on that table!!!

If you wish to take part, please EMAIL ME ASAP!!!

U.K. Nationals at GenCon UK

This is my head-churned memory of the Mythos UK Nationals that I ran at Gencon UK. Prizes supplied by Chaosium and Danny Bourne!
We all met up at the Warlord Demo table and made our way to the DCI Hall, the only room in the building open after midnight....
I met a bunch of new guys (and girl), played some games and learn't Fluxx....which I then rushed out to buy!!! The games were played out over 3 rounds with the highest 4 scores playing the final.
The players, in final score order, were:

I was reintroduced to the cheesy Mr Shiny's Burger Bar trick......By all of you! Man, you guys really plagiarise each other's decks! I soon realised why Jeff is call Unexpected! It becomes a guessing game as to when it's gonna happen! I decided to open my Mythos beer and settle down to play.
I had great fun, it was only my second tournament but I did better and am improving, so I was happy!
The final consisted of:
  1. Danny Bourne on 125pts
  2. Mark Denny on 121pts
  3. Matt on 105pts
  4. John on 93pts
The rest of us languished behind as:

5. Unexpected Jeff on 88
6. Madmaps on 88
7. Fred J on 83
8. Syth on 82
9. Philippa on 76
10.Leaky Pipes on 67

Danny won a convincing final and had first choice of books from Chaosium along with John and Matt. DJ got an uncut card sheet... Thanks for all playing guys and hope to see more of you when you all hit London and come to the SELWG Mythos events! Any other questions and queries, er....forget it! I just can't remember!

The The New Aeon Mythos Logo is upon us, and Team SELWG presented:-

The Doom That Came to SELWG Logo

On APRIL 22nd 2001 Team SELWG invited any and all of you to come to the first Mythos tournament we have held! It was a great day with at least 3 games for everyone and prizes for all!

The tournament doors opened at 10am and everyone was gone by 5pm. Refreshments, as always, were available from the wonderful Chris.

RULES DETAILS

FORMAT: Multiplayer with up to 4 per game. 4 Qualifying games of 50 mins each. Top players to play in final game.

SCORING: You score your ADVENTURE points + remaining SANITY + SCORE. Highest scores will play each other after the first, randomly decided, game.

Top 3 players automatically qualify for the final with ALL tied players in 4th place gaining a place also.

The day went well, with initially 11 players but dropped to 9 after the first two games. Thanks for coming Chris and Daniel, and I hope you weren't too upset at missing the final game or the reaction to your departing play! Nerves you know, nerves!!!!
The player line up was as follows:- Steve Bailey, Sy Hughes, Fred Jowett, Graham, Steve, John, Kevin, Mark Denny, Chris Farnan, Chris & Daniel. The first Round was split into multiplayer games like this:

Because we had played some three and some four player games a consensus of opinion decided that the final would be a three player affair between Steve B., Graham and Fred J.; needless to say Steve's super fast deck won it in next to no time and he won a copy of "The Art of Playing Mythos" which I had procured from Chaosium's website shop the Wizard's Attic and Steve himself donated a New Aeon booster to all players. All in all a great day's gaming.....Keep an eye on this website for future events!
